Traffic Conversion Optimization: For Low Traffic Websites
When a company expands, it must focus on many different aspects of the business. It is commonly believed that A/B testing and conversion optimization are quite costly in terms of both time and effort.
It can feel like a catch if you are a startup, small business, or relatively new website:
- The better your conversion rate, the more affordable it is to send users to your site
- But the lower your traffic, the more difficult it is to boost your conversion rate
It's a common misconception that a website doesn't have enough traffic to warrant the investment of time, energy, and money into traffic conversion optimization. However, the truth is that any amount of traffic is better than none, and you can begin optimizing your website today to help it grow into the best, highest converting version of itself tomorrow.
Extra money will start coming in faster if you get started right away. That's good news since it means you can put more money towards advertising your site to new visitors. And this positive growth cycle will continue to fuel even more conversion growth in the future.
Making the decision right now to work with what you have is the first step. This blog will point you in the direction of the greatest place to begin establishing that virtuous cycle in your company. To kick things off, I'll share what I think is the single most effective way to increase conversions quickly and significantly:
User testing
User testing can be done in two major ways: Invite people from your target market(s) to your office or to a video chat service like Skype or Zoom.
While choice two is likely to be more time and effort efficient, choice one ensures that you will receive feedback from people who are most like your target audience when they visit your site. While those services allow you to select the demographics of the respondents, nothing beats hearing from your existing clientele, email list, social media followers, etc.
Users should be prompted to complete several key conversion actions before you dive into deeper, Here’s what to ask the users who are beta-testing your website:
- "What, if anything, is unclear on our site?"
- Is there anything else you need to know before making a decision that you haven't seen on our site?
- What kinds of roadblocks do you encounter when doing these steps?
While Google Analytics is wonderful for providing quantitative data about what happened on your site, qualitative data gleaned from user testing like this can shed light on the underlying motivations behind your visitors' actions. Qualitative data may show you exactly what you need to know to make your site better and encourage more people to take the action you desire.
Site speed improvements
Even if you don't agree that "speed kills," poor site speed certainly does. This is true for all internet traffic, but it is especially true for mobile traffic, which accounts for an ever-increasing share of total internet traffic.
People's tolerance for websites that take too long to load is decreasing. And because Google is so invested in providing its users with a great search experience, site speed is now a major factor in how the search engine ranks pages.
Keep in mind that these programs can examine each and every page of your site individually. While it may not be worthwhile to analyze every page on your site, you should definitely look into your homepage, some of your most popular sites, and any pages that are essential to your primary conversions.
There is a '80/20 rule' which states that if you don't have a lot of developer time, you should prioritize fixing the 20% of issues that account for 80% of the delay.
Minifying or combining external JavaScript
Of course, you should fix every bug if you have enough developer time and/or you're the ambitious sort.
You should prioritize progress over perfection because you will never achieve a perfect score using these instruments. Site performance is crucial, but there are other aspects of your site that also demand your time and effort, so focus on those major concerns first. You can only focus on one item at a time, so choose one of the aforementioned tactics and develop a strategy for putting it to use in your company.
All of these tactics can assist bring about large traffic conversion optimization and revenue increases, regardless of whether or not you have enough traffic to do a lot of A/B tests.
